Clew has worked closely with some of the industry’s most unique firms and individuals to engender successful project execution, from a CFO of a public firm to an award winning investigative journalist. We leverage deep exposure to executive management, competitive intelligence consulting, business research as well as executive/board search.
David Carpe, Principal and Founder
In addition to his leadership role at Clew, David spends a portion of each week working as a Program Manager for the Office of the CTO at Microsoft Corporation.
Before creating Clew, David served as Chairman and CEO of everpath, Inc., a venture-backed software and internet services firm. He successfully raised venture financing and defined strategies and goals for the firm. Previously, Dave co-founded and managed Thorn & Graves, a consulting firm catering to emerging market organizations. Earlier, David worked for several years in consulting and research as a principal with a boutique firm. He began his professional career with Fidelity Investments as an Equity Trading Assistant within Fidelity Capital Markets, and later worked as a Research Associate within Fidelity Capital.
He received his BFA from the George Washington University (stone sculpture) and his MBA from Babson College, where he authored a case on valuation for the Division Chair of Finance. He has also worked as a Volunteer Teacher with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) through the Citizen’s Schools of Boston and continues to participate in Babson’s innovative Coaching for Leadership and Teamwork Program (CLTP) program.
David has written extensively in the areas of human resources, research as well as competitive intelligence covering numerous processes, products and opinions. He is a regularly featured columnist for Competitive Intelligence Magazine. Additionally, he has provided expert commentary to myriad publications ranging from the Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine, Wired and The New York Times to the Boston Globe, Chronicle of Philanthropy and CFO.com.
Memberships include: Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP), SCIP Partner Program, INSNA (International Network for Social Network Analysis), AIIP (Association of Independent Information Professionals) and the MIT Enterprise Forum. David is also a Founding Member of the Human Capital Institute.
Recently, David was the recipient of a “2007 Future HR Leader” Award from Human Capital Magazine recognizing his work bringing CI to corporate HR teams; he also received this award in 2005. Outside of Clew, David serves on the Membership Advisory Committee of SCIP (2008), the board of Conditor (wireless gaming) and the advisory board of Jigsaw Data Corporation.

Matthew Marcos, Senior Director, Alvarez and Marsal
Matt Marcos is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group in New York. Mr. Marcos brings more than 14 years of diverse transactional, analytical and operating experience within the healthcare and chemicals industries.
Mr. Marcos’ most notable assignments have included advising on a variety of sell-side, buy-side and leveraged buyouts across several sectors, including healthcare IT, revenue cycle management, medicare advantage, skilled-nursing and long-term care, and pharmaceuticals. Mr. Marcos also served as advisor to the Unsecured Creditors Committee for Integrated Health Services, Inc. and was part of the team advising the Board of Directors of Advanced Tissue Sciences during its Chapter 11 reorganization.
Mr. Marcos’ domestic and cross-border transactional experience includes mergers, acquisitions, public equity, private equity, leveraged and management buyouts, strategic alliances and restructurings. He also served as an interim CFO for a consumer products company specializing in luxury brands. In this role, Mr. Marcos addressed working capital issues by improving collections to reduce accounts receivable days, rationalized SKUs and increased inventory turns. He also developed a logistics and distribution business for the commodity chemicals market in Argentina.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Marcos was a Director with the Healthcare Investment Banking group of CIT, and an Executive Director with Eureka Capital Markets, where he provided financial advisory services to public and private middle-market companies on valuations, mergers, acquisitions and private placements of both debt and equity. Prior to his investment banking career, he was a Manager with the Commodity Chemicals Division of Mitsubishi International Corporation in New York.
Mr. Marcos received a bachelor’s degree in international affairs, with a minor in biology, from George Washington University and a master’s degree in business administration in finance from New York University, Stern School of Business. He has also completed studies at Universidad Antonio de Nebrija (Nebrisensis) in Madrid, and was a licensed NASD General Securities Registered Representative (Series 7 and 63).
